Stronger Arts/Stronger Cities, a yearlong series hosted by Barnes & Noble at Vanderbilt, will continue Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. with Nashville Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Denice Hicks.
Each installment of Stronger Arts/Stronger Cities features a one-hour interview with leaders from Nashville’s arts community as well as local political leaders. The interviews are recorded for later broadcast on community access channel 19, Nashville Education, Community and Arts Television (NECAT).
The Feb. 13 event is open to the public. Free parking will be available in the 2525 Garage behind the bookstore.
Stronger Arts/Stronger Cities kicked off Jan. 16 with an interview with Nashville Symphony CEO Alan Valentine. Valentine addressed some of the fiscal issues surrounding the Nashville Symphony in 2013. The event was recorded for broadcast and will begin airing on NECAT soon.
The goal of Stronger Arts/Stronger Cities is to advocate for all forms of art, with an emphasis on the literary arts. The Jan. 16 event was a collaboration among local artists. The backdrop for the evening was a gallery provided by the Tennessee Art League and is part of a yearlong exhibit that will change each month of the series. Flowers were provided by local artist Perri Crutcher of OSHI Flowers, and local theater group KB Productions filmed the event.
