Russ Altman, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of Bioengineering at Stanford University, will deliver the next Flexner Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 6.
He will discuss “The Emerging Network of Data Connecting Genes to Drugs,” beginning at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
Altman, who is also professor of Genetics and Medicine at Stanford, is the principal investigator of the Pharmacogenomics Knowledgebase (PharmGKB). The PharmGKB collects, curates and disseminates knowledge about the impact of genetic variation on drug responses (gene-drug associations, genotype-phenotype relationships, drug dosing guidelines and labels).
Altman has led the PharmGKB since its inception in 2000, and Vanderbilt has been a member since 2001. He also directs the Helix Group at Stanford, which creates and applies computational tools to solve problems in biology and medicine.
Altman is a member of the Institute of Medicine and is the current president of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
