When large white tents and masses of chrysanthemums start dotting campus, you know it must be Reunion time. This year more than 3,000 alumni and guests gathered on campus Oct. 3–5 for Reunion 2013. From Thursday evening’s reception for the newest Quinqs to the last play of the Homecoming football game on Saturday, the weekend was packed with activities.
Friday’s popular educational programs included lectures by Centennial Professor of Philosophy John Lachs; David Williams, vice chancellor for university affairs and athletics and athletic director; and Vereen Bell, professor of English, emeritus, among others. Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos delivered his annual campus update.
That evening, alumni and guests enjoyed class parties complete with music from their Vanderbilt days and lots of reminiscing. The All-Class Party featuring the Atlanta All-Stars capped the night’s festivities.
The Homecoming Tailgate on Saturday featured a Southern buffet and family-friendly activities. The Spirit of Gold Marching Band and Commodore cheerleaders added to the fun.
A new Reunion tradition was introduced during the Homecoming game: presentation of the Reunion Attendance Cup and the Reunion Participation Cup. The Class of 1963, with the highest percentage of alumni in attendance and the highest giving participation percentage, won both prizes. In all, Reunion giving amounted to more than $16.7 million.
Plans are already underway for Reunion 2014, set for Oct. 9–11.
