Great Performances at Vanderbilt announces 39th seasonSep. 11, 2013, 10:11 AM
Great Performances at Vanderbilt’s 39th season brings a three-event lineup offering a touch of soul-stirring musical fusion, theater excellence and the best of jazz innovation.
A Moving Sound will open the season Sept. 26 in a stop on the group’s international tour. Based in Taipei, Taiwan, the musical ensemble fuses Taiwanese, Chinese and neighboring Asian ideas in its inspiring contemporary song compositions. Great Performances will partner with Zeitgeist Art Gallery to offer an exclusive free preview with A Moving Sound’s vocalist, Mia Hsieh, on Sept. 25.
Aquila Theater will present its take on Ray Bradbury’s classic dystopian tale Fahrenheit 451 on Nov. 1. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Bradbury’s visionary parable of a society gone awry.
Jon Batiste and his band Stay Human will close the series on Jan. 26. Batiste has performed in more than 40 countries, collaborating with Harry Connick Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Cassandra Wilson and Prince, among others, in addition to playing a lead role in Spike Lee’s latest film Red Hook Summer.
