Vanderbilt Libraries and two student groups that help adoptable dogs seeking permanent homes teamed up for the perfect study break Tuesday. “Smooch a Pooch” offered exam-weary students the opportunity to greet, hug and leash-walk Astrid and Rocky, two sweet dogs in need of loving homes. The event, which included water on the rocks for the dogs, took place just outside of the Central Library lobby.
The student organization Rehabilitating Adoptable Dogs works with Socializing Homeless Dogs and other pet adoption programs to help prepare canines for adoption. Taking adoptable dogs for leash walks on and off campus is just one of the ways students help build the animals’ socialization skills, according to Jonathan Neal-Thompson, president of Rehabilitating Adoptable Dogs.
