Professional golfer and Vanderbilt alumnus Brandt Snedeker, BA’03, climbed into the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in his career last fall. The Nashville native jumped eight spots to No. 10 after winning the Tour Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club Sept. 23. It was his second PGA Tour victory of the year.
Snedeker won at East Lake in convincing fashion. After a double bogey on the par-3 sixth, he quickly recovered, hitting a 40-foot birdie putt on the eighth and an 18-foot birdie putt on the 13th. His final round of 2-under 68 gave him a three-shot victory over Justin Rose, who also is in the world’s top 10.
“Today was my day to go out and prove a bunch of people wrong—to show that I can play with the lead, I can handle the pressure,” Snedeker said. “And I did it.”
The win at East Lake also secured Snedeker’s first-place finish for the FedEx Cup, a season-long points competition that awards a $10 million bonus.
