On Saturday, Sept. 29, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts will open its doors free of charge along with more than 1,400 other participating venues across the country for Museum Day Live! Now in its eighth year, Museum Day Live! emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington, D.C.-based facilities and encourages learning and the spread of knowledge nationwide.
For one day only, the Frist Center will grant free access to visitors who download a Museum Day Live! ticket at Smithsonian.com. Last year’s event drew more than 350,000 museum-goers, and this year’s Museum Day Live! is expected to attract close to 400,000 participants.
Visitors to the Frist will enjoy a wide variety of exhibitions, including the recently opened Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video in the Ingram Gallery and Brian Alfred: It’s Already the End of the World in the Gordon Contemporary Artists Project Gallery. In the Upper-Level galleries, visitors can experience Constable: Oil Sketches from the Victoria and Albert Museum. In addition, Metamorphoses: Drawings by Erin Anfinson, Mark Hosford, Kristi Hargrove and Chris Scarborough will be on view in the Conte Community Arts Gallery, and Cameras and Community in Action, an exhibition composed of 500 photographs by Nashville community members, will be on view in the Frist Center’s Education Corridor.
Visitors who present a Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on Sept. 29 only. One ticket is permitted per household, per email address.
