Children’s Hospital launches new website

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is launching a redesigned website this week that will give parents, visitors and health professionals easier access to hospital and health information.

The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt has launched a redesigned Website that gives parents, visitors and health professionals easier access to hospital and health information.

Feedback from families and hospital staff, as well as site usage data, were instrumental in the redesign.

“We looked at our analytics to understand how the site was being used and balanced those numbers with input from the Family Advisory Council,” said Susan Kohari, web manager for the Children’s Hospital site. “We have designed the website with bright new colors and new photos, and have simplified navigation to access content with fewer clicks.”

The makeover includes: A focus on patient- and family-centered care; a new Guide to Children’s Hospital, showcasing services, support, volunteer and giving information; new maps and parking information for hospital and community clinic locations; and links to social media communities.
Also, a link for health professionals located in the top navigation bar will lead to frequently used resources.

Leading-edge “responsive design” will automatically resize text and change the navigation for better usability on different sized screens, including desktop monitors, cell and smart phones and tablets.

First launched in 2002, the site has grown to include more than 2,000 pages of information. Future refinements include a new slideshow feature and more videos, including animated videos to help prepare children for a visit to the hospital.
