To help reduce the rising rates of skin cancer from overexposure to UV sun rays, the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as “Don’t Fry Day” to encourage sun safety awareness and to remind everyone to protect their skin while enjoying the outdoors.

Because no single step can fully protect you and your family from overexposure to UV radiation, remember to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP and WRAP:

  • SLIP on a shirt
  • SLOP on some sunscreen
  • SLAP on a hat
  • WRAP on some sunglasses.

Vanderbilt Dermatology invites employees and their families to visit Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, for games, giveaways and to learn how to protect themselves from harmful UV rays.

Also, at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 31, Vanderbilt Health Line on Channel 5+ will feature a live discussion with Vanderbilt cancer and dermatology experts on the rise in skin cancer, how to decrease risk, new treatment options and the latest in research advancements.
