Vanderbilt has adopted a new policy for registering, renewing and transferring university and medical center domain names.

The goal of the new policy is to:

  • Provide the university and medical center with an efficient domain registration, renewal and transfer process
  • Centrally track all domains used by the university and medical center
  • Ensure a domain is not tied to an individual person’s credit card or login and that the domain will be accessible by Vanderbilt should that person leave or be unavailable
  • Ensure Vanderbilt’s trademarks are used properly
  • Minimize domain name registration, renewal and transfer costs for the enterprise.

Information Technology Services has negotiated a contract with Network Solutions, a domain name registrar, for providing Vanderbilt with discounted pricing for registering, renewing and transferring domain names. The new service is available through the Vanderbilt Software Store.

  • Use VandyContracts (a contract management program) to track and automatically send domain name registration renewal alerts to the primary contact for the domain

Vanderbilt must own all rights in the Internet domain names used by all departments, organizations and units within the university and medical center. Therefore all faculty, staff and students must cooperate with Vanderbilt in acquiring new or transferring ownership for current domain names and websites used for all official Vanderbilt purposes and activities and must fill out this form.

The deadline for transferring existing domains to Vanderbilt’s new Network Solutions account is July 1, 2012.  Please contact the Vanderbilt Software Store at (615) 343-3919 with questions.
