Vanderbilt’s Department of Art recently received a generous gift of welding equipment from Will Rigby, a Vanderbilt alumnus and the 2011 Margaret Stonewall Wooldridge Hamblet Merit Award recipient.

Rigby approached Mel Ziegler, chair of the Department of Art, with his wishes to “give back to the department that gave me so much.”

The gift in kind included an MIG welder, an oxy-acetylene welder and additional equipment that will allow the department to set up a special welding area inside the sculpture shop.

Will, the son of Lee Kaaren and Judi Rigby of Irvine, Calif., is currently doing post-baccalaureate work in sculpture and performance art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
