See Opera Theatre’s ‘Mad Men’-style ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’ free Nov. 11, 13

Vanderbilt Opera Theatre, under direction of Gayle Shay, and Vanderbilt University Orchestra, conducted by Robin Fountain, present Cosi Fan Tutte, fully staged and costumed and sung entirely in English.

This production is a ’60s-style spin on Cosi, Mozart’s classic, if provocative, opera of hidden identities, devious men and fickle women. The opera is set against the backdrop of Mad Men-style cocktail culture and the Vietnam War, giving a modern framework to the production and a more nuanced interpretation of what is often seen as a misogynistic tale.

Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, both in Ingram Hall.

Tickets are not required for these performances, which are free and open to the public.
