Former presidential speechwriters John McConnell and David Halperin will join Sam Feist, CNN Washington bureau chief and Vanderbilt alumnus, for a panel discussion, “Writing for the President and Interpreting the News,” Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Vanderbilt University.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of The Commons Center, located at the Martha Rivers Ingram Commons at Vanderbilt. The event is sponsored by the university’s Office of Active Citizenship and Service.
McConnell, former speechwriter for President George W. Bush, Halperin, former speechwriter for President Bill Clinton, and Feist will discuss the challenges and experiences of writing for the president of the United States, and how news organizations interpret the president’s words for the public. John Geer, chair of Vanderbilt’s Department of Political Science, will moderate the discussion.
