Journalist Robert Levine will give a lecture titled “The Price of Free: How the Internet is Destroying the Culture Business” at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Curb Center for Art, Enterprise and Public Policy at Vanderbilt. The Fall 2011 Curb Creative Leadership Lecture is free and open to the public.

Levine is the former executive editor of Billboard magazine and has written for Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and the arts and business sections of the New York Times. In his first book, Free Ride, Levine charts how the media industry lost control of its destiny after laws made it possible for companies such as YouTube to build businesses on copyrighted content, then again when Apple and Amazon drove down the price of music and books.

Levine’s talk contributes to the ongoing discussion facilitated by the Curb Center on the vitality of U.S. expressive life and creative enterprise. A reception and book signing will follow the lecture.

Free and metered parking will be available on 17th and 18th avenues south.
