New director of Center for Medicine, Health and Society to speak Sept. 21

Jonathan Metzl, director of the Center for Medicine, Health and Society at Vanderbilt

Jonathan Metzl, the new director of the Center for Medicine, Health and Society at Vanderbilt, will discuss the center’s role at a community forum on Wednesday, Sept. 21., at 4:15 p.m.

All members of the Vanderbilt community, in particular students, staff and faculty involved with the center, are invited to attend the forum in Buttrick Hall, Room 101.

Metzl, who started work at Vanderbilt this semester, will discuss the evolution of the center from a small student-interest group to a center with a popular undergraduate major, emerging graduate curriculum and increasing number of faculty.

Metzl, the Frederick B. Rentschler II Professor of Sociology and Medicine, Health and Society, will present an overview of the center and its plans for the future, including expansion of the curriculum and community outreach.

The presentation will be recorded and posted to the center’s website.
