Preseason Honors Bode Well for Season
Men’s Tennis
Players Earn All-SEC, Rookie of the Year Honors
Sophomore Ryan Lipman and senior Adam Baker, BA’11, were selected to the 2011 All-SEC team. Lipman was named to the first team for the second consecutive year, and Baker was named to the second team. Freshman Blake Bazarnik was named the ITA Ohio Valley Rookie Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, one of only 12 freshmen across the country to receive top honors. The Commodores finished the season with a 13–11 overall record, 4–7 in conference play.
Bowling
Commodores Play for National Title
Vanderbilt’s renowned bowling team played for a national championship in April, but fell to Maryland-Eastern Shore in the title match, 4 games to 2. Junior Brittni Hamilton was voted to the All-Tournament team.
Women’s Golf
Top-10 Finish
The women’s golf team ended its second consecutive NCAA Championship berth in a tie for 10th place with Florida. Sophomore Anna Leigh Keith led the Commodores with a 5-over-par effort.
Lacrosse
All-American, All-Region Players
Junior midfielder Ally Carey was named a first-team All-American for the second consecutive year by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaching Association. Junior attack Courtney Kirk and freshman defense Brandi Byner were named to the IWLCA’s All-West/Midwest Region second team. The team finished the season with an 8–8 record.
Women’s Tennis
NCAA Tourney Appearance Caps Winning Season
The women’s tennis team reached the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with an overall record of 17–9. Freshman Alex Leatu was named to the 2011 SEC Women’s Tennis Championship Team for her play in the SEC tournament, and she and junior Chelsea Preeg were named to the All-SEC second team.
