Sign up now for Vanderbilt’s first annual Curb Creative Practice Bootcamp scheduled for Friday, Sept. 2, at the Curb Center, 1801 Edgehill Ave. Faculty, staff, students and community members can attend any or all of the free workshops designed to build their creative and innovative chops. Space is limited. The event is presented by the Curb Creative Campus Initiative.

“Rather than just listening to experts, participants will be immersed in hands-on, experiential workshops designed to provide them with fundamental objectives and techniques to bring back to their classroom, research or work,” said Elizabeth Long Lingo, director of the Curb Creative Campus Initiative.
The workshops will explore:
- Improvisation with Second City Improv
- Design Thinking with a Stanford d.school expert
- Giving and Receiving Critical Feedback with MacArthur “genius” fellow and choreographer Liz Lerman
- Graphic Facilitation with Peter Durand, creative director of Alphachimp Studio
- Habits of Creative Problem Solving with actor, author and international arts learning consultant Eric Booth
- Storytelling with Glenis Redmond, storyteller and poet
Do you wish you could be more spontaneous and innovative in the classroom, when presenting your work or on project teams? Do you wish you were better at listening, building on others’ ideas or using humor to break through difficult moments? The Second City Master Class workshop will immerse you in the fundamentals of improvisation.
Seeking to learn how to harness design thinking to solve a real-world challenge? Gain experience in fundamental design thinking tenets such as need finding, being human-centered, rapid prototyping, visualization and team dynamics.
Are you in a position to critique someone else’s work? Are you seeking a way to get useful feedback on your own work? Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process is a widely recognized method that facilitates dialogue between creators and those giving feedback.
Seeking to enhance your ability to facilitate conversation in the classroom, at meetings or during presentations? This workshop offers a fast-paced introduction to graphic facilitation and visual mapping of conversations and ideas.
What are the habits of mind of creative engagement? What are humans doing when they invest themselves in any subject matter, be it shaping clay or crafting new computer code? This workshop will experientially explore the basic-basics of creative capacity.
Seeking to improve your ability to share your story and ideas? This workshop is for faculty, staff and students interested in harnessing the fundamentals of storytelling, narrative and poetry to bring concepts to life in the classroom, engage others in creative projects or research, and present their story in a compelling way in job interviews and essays.
