Traffic on Natchez Trace on the Vanderbilt campus was blocked for nearly two hours the afternoon of Aug. 3 while Metro Nashville Police conducted an investigation.
A suspicious item was reported at the Marriott Nashville Hotel on West End Avenue at about 1:30 p.m. Police removed the item and everything was back to normal by 3:30 p.m. The item was determined to be harmless.
VUPD officers were called in to assist, bringing in bomb-sniffing K9 officers, who were not ultimately needed.
Employees in the adjacent 2525 Building, which houses numerous Vanderbilt offices including Human Resources, were notified by a loudspeaker message to refrain from using the west exit of the building (near P.F. Chang’s). Later they were given the “all clear” message.
The item turned out to be non-life-threatening, according to Major Bob Passinger, University Central Precinct, VUPD.
“The bomb squad took all the precautionary measures,” he said. “They removed the item and no one was ever in any danger.”
No evacuations took place.
