University mourns Peabody student Sarah Dargon

Sarah Dargon, a senior at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development, died in Miami after an accident in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Students were informed of the tragedy July 6 by Mark Bandas, associate provost and dean of students, in an email.

“She had many friends at Vanderbilt and will be sorely missed by the students, faculty and staff who knew her,” Bandas said.

Dargon, from Norwell, Mass., majored in Human and Organizational Development and had recently completed an internship with The US-UK Fulbright Commission. She transferred to Vanderbilt in fall 2009 from Northeastern University.

According to news reports, Dargon was injured after falling from a bus on St. John.

Funeral arrangements were being planned in Massachusetts. Students interested in helping plan a campus memorial service may call the Office of Religious Life at (615) 322-2457.
