A range of never-before-offered career resources for alumni is being rolled out, thanks to a strategic partnership between the Vanderbilt Alumni Association and the Vanderbilt Career Center.
This collaboration, which began informally in 2009 with the creation of the Career Moves program, seeks to better serve the needs of alumni by fostering professional development, networking opportunities, and lifelong connections between fellow alumni and the university. The newest service is a job board for alumni, launched in January through the university’s online community, VUconnect. There you may browse job listings posted by other alumni, or post your own job openings.
On the horizon are more networking events coordinated by local Vanderbilt chapters, along with a series of job-search and professional development webinars developed by the Alumni Association and intended to support alumni throughout the life-cycle of their careers. Alumni have told us they want expert advice about breaking into various fields of work, creating individual “brands,” transitioning into new industries, and other topics important in today’s marketplace—and the webinar series will provide just that. Initial webinars will focus on the fundamentals: job-search skills and tools, networking, résumé resources, tips for finding a career you’ll love, and more.
Remember, too, that alumni always have access to a variety of Web-based career services, including résumé writing, interviewing, and researching of nearly 2 million U.S. employers in more than 60 industries, through the Career Center website. Just go to the Alumni Services section of the site.
