Crime Alert – Attempted Robbery

On Wednesday, March 23, the Vanderbilt University Police Department received a report of an attempted robbery/purse snatching.

The victim stated she was walking on 25th Avenue South from the 2525 West End area toward Vanderbilt Place at about 5 p.m. when two people pulled up near her in an SUV and asked for directions to the Interstate. As the victim was giving directions, the female passenger reached through the SUV window and grabbed her purse. The victim stated that she and the passenger struggled over the purse for about five seconds until the suspect let go of the purse. The vehicle then drove up 25th Avenue South and turned left on Vanderbilt Place.

Descriptions:

  • The vehicle is described as a very dirty older model black SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban.
  • The driver is described as a male black between 20-25 years old with short hair and wearing a dark colored shirt.
  • The passenger is described as a female black between 17 and 23 years old who had long hair tied in a pony tail and wearing a tank top.
