State lawmakers had the opportunity to learn about Vanderbilt’s significant impact across all of Tennessee when administrators as well as students participated in Vanderbilt University’s Day on the Hill on March 16.
Dr. Kevin Churchwell, CEO and executive director of the Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital, Colleen Conway-Welch, dean of the School of Nursing, Larry Goldberg, CEO of Vanderbilt University Hospital, and Beth Fortune, vice chancellor for Public Affairs, were among those on Vanderbilt’s leadership team greeting and meeting with legislators.
Children’s Hospital, Dyer Observatory, Kennedy Center, Bill Wilkerson Center, Nursing School and Programs for Talented Youth all had decorative display tables for the purpose of informing interested lawmakers. In addition, Vera Chatman, professor of the practice of human and organizational development, brought her class on health policy to Vanderbilt’s seventh Day on the Hill for a tour and chance to see how current legislative policy is shaped.
The day, which is coordinated by Community, Neighborhood and Government Relations, began early with breakfast provided for the entire General Assembly in the cafeteria and musicians from the Blair School of Music performing in the hallways of Legislative Plaza.
