Vanderbilt University’s Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center has filled key positions with the naming of Anna Guest-Jelley as associate director and Kayti Protos as program coordinator.
Guest-Jelley joins Vanderbilt from Gainesville, Fla., where she directed the violence prevention program at Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network. She has served as vice chair of Gainesville Area NOW and Gainesville Women’s Liberation, and was a co-founder of the Alachua County Pro-Choice Coalition in Florida. She holds master’s degrees in family, youth and community science and in English from the University of Florida. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.
As program coordinator, Protos will primarily oversee Project Safe, a campus-wide effort aimed at education, prevention and response services for Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff affected by sexual assault, intimate partner abuse and stalking. Protos joins Vanderbilt from Canton, N.Y., where she was the director of St.
Lawrence University‘s advocates program, a grant-based effort dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence and promoting prevention and intervention-based programming. A Vanderbilt alumnus, Protos holds a bachelor’s degree in communications studies and women’s and gender studies.
The Women’s Center advances equity at Vanderbilt and in the larger community through advocacy, education and empowerment. Among its goals are to advocate for inclusive policies and practices throughout the institution; develop and present programs that provide scholarly research about gender and women’s issues; enhance practical skills, foster creative expression, and foster a community of allies for women’s and gender issues.
Founded in 1978, the center is named for Margaret Cuninggim, the last person to serve as Dean of Women at Vanderbilt and the first woman to serve as Dean of Student Services.
