Jim Bradford has been re-appointed dean of Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management for a five-year term, effective July 1. The announcement was made by Richard McCarty, vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost.
“Jim has worked tirelessly over the past five years to promote the Owen School to a variety of external constituencies,” McCarty said, adding that Bradford managed the school through an especially challenging period during the economic downturn.
“I look forward to working with Jim … to maintain Owen’s upward trajectory,” McCarty said.
Bradford, who also serves as the Ralph Owen Professor for the Practice of Management, was appointed dean in March 2005 after serving as acting dean for nine months. He joined Owen in 2002.
During his tenure as dean, Bradford spearheaded the development and launch of four innovative programs at Owen, including the Health Care MBA, master’s degrees in finance and accountancy, and Accelerator, a 30-day summer intensive for highly qualified undergraduates. Under his leadership, annual giving to the school has increased more than 300 percent.
Bradford previously served as president and CEO of United Glass Corporation and AFG Industries Inc. A Vanderbilt Law School graduate, he also spent 11 years in private law practice.
