The Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management welcomed four unique academics, with strong professional business backgrounds, as the newest members of the Owen faculty.

Assistant Professor of Finance Miguel Palacios is an expert on asset pricing and labor economics, especially as they relate to human capital. He is the author of Investing in Human Capital: A Capital Market’s Approach to Student Funding (2004) and co-author of Investing in Emerging Markets (2003). Palacios is also the co-founder of an education investment company called Lumni Inc. The company creates investment vehicles to pay a student’s tuition and the student agrees to pay the company a percentage of his or her future income. Palacios came to Owen from the University of California, Berkeley.

Assistant Professor of Marketing Jeffrey Dotson is an expert in marketing research and theory. His research focuses on linking customer satisfaction to a firm’s financial performance and developing more accurate models of consumer decision making. He joined Owen after completing his Ph.D. in marketing at the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, where he taught marketing research.

Assistant Professor of Marketing Mark Ratchford is an expert in consumer behavior and models of marketing strategy. He has also conducted behavioral research on the impact of goal setting. He joined Owen after completing his Ph.D. in marketing at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he taught marketing research and consumer behavior.

Lecturer Brian McCann‘s research focuses on strategic management and entrepreneurship. McCann graduated from Owen in 2004 and was the recipient of one of Vanderbilt’s highest academic honors, the Founder’s Medal. He earned his Ph.D. at Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management. He is the co-author, with fellow Owen professor Luke Froeb, of the leading textbook Managerial Economics: A Problem-Solving Approach (2007).
