Important travel message for first-year students and parents

The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced Aug. 20 the closure of the eastbound lanes of I-440 in Nashville from the I-40 junction on the west side of Nashville to I-65 from 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21 until 5 a.m., Monday, Aug. 24.

This closure may affect students driving to Nashville via I-40 from points west. It does not affect students driving to Nashville via I-40 from points east, I-65, or I-24.

First-year students and families approaching Nashville from the west on I-40 should follow these directions to the Vanderbilt campus for Saturday ‘s move-in:

  • Do not take exit 206 onto I-440 East; stay on I-40 East
  • Take exit 208 (40 East/65 South)
  • Take exit 210 (65 South)
  • Take exit 81 (Wedgewood Avenue)
  • Turn Right (west) onto Wedgewood Avenue
  • Take Wedgewood Ave to 16th Avenue South, turn right
  • Take 16th Ave. South to Edgehill Avenue, turn left
  • Follow directions from Vanderbilt Police officers
