(Editor’s Note: During morning drive time, traffic will be heavier than usual on West End Avenue near Vanderbilt from about 7:30 to 9 a.m. because of commencement.)
Vanderbilt University’s Commencement ceremony has been moved indoors due to the severe weather that moved through the area early this morning. The 9 a.m. ceremony, which is traditionally held Alumni Lawn, will be held in Memorial Gym on 25th Avenue South. Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos will give the traditional address to graduates. Vanderbilt is granting about 3,400 degrees this year, 1,580 to undergraduates and 1,820 to graduate and professional students. About 2,700 graduates are expected to attend the ceremony.
The ceremony will be webcast live starting at 9 a.m. at www.vanderbilt.edu. A mult box will be available stage left. For the first time, participants in Commencement activities will be given the opportunity to share their impressions and comments through the free social networking service Twitter.
