Vanderbilt art department open house is April 17

The work of art students at Vanderbilt University will be displayed April 17-May 8 at the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Art Center. The exhibit is open to the general public, as is a reception April 17 highlighted by the announcement of the $25,000 Margaret Stonewall Wooldridge Hamblet award funding a year of travel and research for a graduating senior.

The 4 to 6 p.m. reception will culminate in several award announcements. In addition to the Hamblet award, the winners of the Allen P. DeLoach Memorial Prize in Photography, the Mid-South Ceramics Award and the Plaza Artist Materials Awards will be revealed.

Art from all students will fill the Ingram Studio Art Center at 1204 25th Ave. S. (25th and Garland on the Vanderbilt campus), with the senior show in the Space 204 gallery. The public is invited to peruse the work 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for the duration of the exhibit.

The Hamblet award winner returns to Vanderbilt in a year for an exhibit of his or her work.

“This senior show has become a highlight on the Vanderbilt calendar,” said Mel Ziegler, chairman of the art department. “We enthusiastically invite the Vanderbilt and Nashville community to attend and see some inspired work. It’s a broad range of work – one of the most diverse shows we’ve ever had.”

Participating seniors in the exhibit include Rachel Conard, Amelia Cousins, Alex Echols, Deborah Figueroa-Cruz, Ayia Gospodinova, Esther Lee, Joann Lee, Lindsey Lybrand, Tawney Milam, Carmen Mims, Tori Patterson, Jerrica Raglin, Downs Reese, Andrea Severin, Reece Tucker and Rachael Wang.
