Three-part class examines the development of the institution of marriage

The development of the institution of marriage at the beginning of recorded history will be examined by a professor from Vanderbilt Divinity School during a three-part class.

The class, part of Vanderbilt’s Relevant Religion series, is “Marriage at the Beginning: Marriage in the Ancient Near East and the Hebrew Bible.” It will be held three successive Tuesdays – March 24, March 31 and April 7 – at West End United Methodist Church, 2200 West End Ave. Each class will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The cost to attend all three classes is $10. To register, telephone 615-936-8453 or go to http://www.vanderbilt.edu/divinity/rel_religion_register.php.

The course will be taught by Annalisa Azzoni, assistant professor of ancient Near Eastern cultures at Vanderbilt. Azzoni has a particular research interest in women and sexuality in the ancient Near East.

Vanderbilt Divinity School sponsors Relevant Religion courses to give the general public the opportunity to engage with its professors on topics of interest.
