The Vanderbilt University Law School hosted author, professor and noted scholar Melvin L. Oliver at this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture in Flynn Auditorium. He spoke on how the housing crisis has affected African American wealth.
Oliver is the SAGE Sara Miller McCune Dean of Social Sciences and professor of sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and author of “Black Wealth/White Wealth: A New Perspective on Racial Inequality.” Prior to his role at UCSB, Oliver was vice president of the asset building and community development program at the Ford Foundation.
This program helped build human, social, economic, environmental, and interpersonal assets among poor and disadvantaged individuals and communities throughout the world.
