MEDIA ADVISORY: Sustainability and Environmental Management Office to kick off event recycling program at football game against Duke

The Sustainability and Environmental Management Office (SEMO) will offer coordinated recycling at Vanderbilt’s last three home football games this season, beginning this Saturday, Oct. 25, at the game against Duke.

“Major events on campus present the opportunity to recycle a large amount of material that would otherwise take up space at local landfills,” said Jennifer Hackett, recycling coordinator. “We’re excited to be able to coordinate with the student department of athletics, plants operations and other departments as well as student volunteers to help capture this material before it enters the waste stream.”

Here’s information on how and what to recycle at the game:

  • Tailgate areas: Recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans

There will be a 20-foot recycling trailer in the tailgate area. People are encouraged to place their empty bottles and cans in the trailer.

  • Vandyville: Recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans

There will be a number of blue recycling bins located around the Vandyville area. People are encouraged to place their empty bottles and cans in the appropriate bins.

  • In the stadium: Recycling clean cardboard from vendors, plastic bottles and commemorative cups

Fans are asked to take empty bottles and cups to recycling bins placed next to trash cans on the concourse. Vendors will be leaving flattened cardboard next to their areas for pick up after the game.

Look for important recycling information and messages on the Jumbo-Tron in Vandyville as well.
