He discussed “Clones and Chimeras: Medical Monsters in Literature and Film.” Can novels, stories, and movies do more than scare the public about the important challenges raised by stem cell research, cloning, organ transplantation, the use of animal tissue in humans, and other developments in the biological sciences? Do the arts have a role to play in helping people consider the complex ethical and social issues posed by the latest science?
