Candidates on the November ballot in Middle Tennessee – in contests ranging from president to state lawmaker – have been invited to meet the Vanderbilt community, including the university’s neighbors, at a Sept. 25 picnic on Olin Lawn. In the style of an old-fashioned campaign, the candidates may stand on a soapbox in Vanderbilt’s "public square" and briefly introduce themselves to the audience. Candidates also are encouraged to "work the crowd" and distribute campaign literature, while the Davidson County Election Commission will register voters. In addition, there will be a complimentary picnic lunch and live Dixieland jazz to add to the festive atmosphere.
WHAT: Vanderbilt Meet the Candidates Picnic
WHERE: Olin Lawn, located on 25th Avenue South between Garland and Highland avenues (rain location is Memorial Practice Gym)
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
