NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Online media downloading company Napster has terminated its nationwide Napster on Campus program, effectively ending its four-year partnership with Vanderbilt.
Napster has agreed to continue discounted rates for current faculty and staff subscribers. Napster will no longer offer single-use student promotion codes or new faculty discount codes.
All Vanderbilt students and unsubscribed faculty and staff can receive a three-month, 33 percent discount on a Napster to Go subscription by following the instructions below. The discounted rate is $30 for a three-month term. When the term is up, unless cancelled beforehand, the price increases to $14.95 per month. This offer expires Dec. 31, 2008.
Students, faculty and staff with inactive Napster accounts will remain in "Napster Light" status. This gives them access to their music libraries, allows them to play 30-second clips, and to purchase songs and albums from the Napster store. They can upgrade to a full-service subscription.
Vanderbilt’s partnership with Napster began in August 2004. It exemplified Vanderbilt’s support for the Campus Action Network, an initiative dedicated to facilitating safe, legitimate digital music services to campuses. CAN was initiated by Sony BMG Music Entertainment and other record companies. Vanderbilt retains partnerships with music download vendors Apple iTunes, MyTracks, and Ruckus, as well as Joost.
Napster to Go Discount
To get the Napster to Go discount, new subscribers can go to www.napster.com and click the link in the Cards and Codes section. Follow the instructions and enter promo code VANDERBILTNTG when prompted.
If you already have a Napster account, go to http://home.napster.com and sign in. Click My Account on the main menu and then click the link in the Cards and Codes area. Enter the promo code VANDERBILTNTG and click Submit. Confirm your account information and then click Submit again. Your discount begins immediately.
Napster To Go allows you to play all the music you want on the Web and to fill and refill your compatible MP3 player or music phone without paying per-track fees. You can browse new releases and more than 6 million songs. High-quality MP3 downloads are available for 99 cents per track.
