Bluebird on the Mountain concert features White, Cannon and Jarvis

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lari White, Buddy Cannon and John Barlow Jarvis will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, as part of the 2008 Bluebird on the Mountain series at Dyer Observatory.
Bluebird on the Mountain presents artists from the stage of Nashville’s Bluebird Café, one of the city’s premier nightspots for more than two decades. The Bluebird on the Mountain series is booked by Amy Kurland, founder of the Bluebird Café.

White is no stranger to the Bluebird. Shortly after her move to Nashville, she began playing writers’ nights at the club as she learned her way around the music scene. A classically trained pianist, White is a multi-talented artist who has garnered critical recognition as a recording artist, producer and actress. She won a Grammy award for her performance of the gospel standard "Amazing Grace" on The Apostle soundtrack, and in 2006 White produced Toby Keith’s CD White Trash with Money and appeared in the Broadway production of the musical Ring of Fire.

She will share the stage with her husband and sometimes collaborator Chuck Cannon. Since moving to Nashville in 1984, Cannon has enjoyed a healthy string of No. 1 hits for artists that include John Michael Montgomery ("I Love the Way Love Me"), which was the Academy of Country Music’s Song of the Year in 1993 and Toby Keith ("How Do You Like Me Now") and ("American Soldier"). His latest album, Love and Money, was released earlier this year with all of the songs either written or co-written by Cannon.

Rounding out the trio of performers will be Jarvis, who is a two-time Grammy winning songwriter. He scored back-to-back wins with The Judds’ recording of "Love Can Build a Bridge" and the Vince Gill hit "I Still Believe in You" in 1991 and 1992, respectively. In addition he has penned songs for Conway Twitty, Brooks and Dunn and Amy Grant and played piano on records by Faith Hill, Shania Twain, George Strait and Reba McEntire.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. for the show and visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket, lawn chairs and pack a picnic basket. After the show, visitors can linger to stargaze using the observatory’s Seyfert telescope. Season tickets for carloads with a maximum of eight people are $375 for the full series. No RVs or buses will be admitted. Single show tickets are $90 for a carload. No single tickets will be available for this season’s series.

The next concert in the series is Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. and will feature Larry Cordle, Carl Jackson and Jerry Salley.

Dyer Observatory is located at 1000 Oman Drive, off Granny White Pike between Old Hickory Boulevard and Otter Creek Road, near Radnor Lake. A map is available at www.dyer.vanderbilt.edu/directions.htm.
