The Music City Quarter Midget Racing Association will hold a charity race on Saturday, May 31, to benefit Vanderbilt LifeFlight’s transport program.
Vanderbilt LifeFlight provides medically equipped helicopter, airplane and ground neonate emergency transport.
Quarter midget racing is a family-oriented sport that involves children (ages 5 to 16) who race in specially prepared cars. The cars, rules and safety procedures are all designed for children, including full roll cages, multi-point seat harnesses, full-face helmets and other safety gear. The race is conducted on an oval track that is one-twentieth of a mile.
The event will be held at the Music City Speedway, 3672 Central Pike in Hermitage, with gates opening at 10 a.m. A Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter will fly-in from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., and the race begins at noon.
Admission is free, but donations will be taken.
Divisions are broken down based on age and car specifications. The entry fee for drivers, who must be members of the Quarter Midgets of America, is $30 per car. Races will be run in the following divisions, and divisions will be added if needed:
