Ambitious and aggressive initiatives in research funding and financial aid were advanced by Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos in his first address to the Faculty Assembly as the permanent leader of Vanderbilt.
“Now is the time to proceed,” Zeppos said. “We have secured the funding (and) our ideas are right.”
Zeppos spoke April 17 at the Student Life Center. He was preceded by a presentation by Claire Smrekar, associate professor of public policy and education, on her research into schools in low-income neighborhoods; remarks by Bruce Barry, chair of the Faculty Senate and professor of management and sociology; and the presentation of five teaching awards.
