Virginia Shepherd, a pathology professor at Vanderbilt University and co-chair of the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics, will take part in two panel discussions on Monday, Oct. 15, as the Knight Commission discusses a faculty survey on intercollegiate athletics.
The results of the national survey of more than 2,000 faculty members at universities with the country’s most visible athletics programs can be found at www.knightcommission.org. They will be discussed from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The event is free and open to the public, and more than 100 institutional representatives and faculty members are scheduled to attend.

Shepherd will appear at a panel discussion from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. to discuss what faculty members think about college athletics and the issues affecting academics and athletics. From 10:45 a.m. to noon, she’ll participate in a breakout session on faculty governance rules.
