NCURA to present Jerry Fife with Distinguished Service Award

The National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) has chosen Jerry Fife, assistant vice chancellor for research finance at Vanderbilt University, to receive its 2007 Distinguished Service Award.

The NCURA established the Distinguished Service Award in 2001 as a way to recognize members of the organization who have made sustained and distinctive contributions to the group. Areas of service for this award include national and regional presentations, publications, committees and serving as an NCURA officer.

Fife has been a member of NCURA since 1987 and has served in a variety of capacities including that of president and as a member of the Board of Directors. He has contributed on a consistent basis as a faculty member and presenter at annual, regional and traveling conferences, chairing the 2002 Financial Research Administration Conference. Additionally, Fife has participated as a moderator and panelist for several TV broadcasts, and currently serves as a contributing editor for the NCURA newsletter.

NCURA’s executive director, Kathleen Larmett, said, “Jerry Fife exemplifies the NCURA Distinguished Service Award. His volunteer accomplishments are numerous and his contributions to both NCURA and the research community as a whole have benefited many. Jerry’s expert teaching, writing and mentoring of junior members of this profession have already made an important impact and will have a lasting effect on the next generation of research administrators.”

Fife will receive his award at the NCURA 49th Annual Meeting, during a special recognition luncheon on Nov. 5, at the Hilton Washington and Towers in Washington, D.C.

NCURA serves its members and advances the field of research administration through education and professional development programs, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and by fostering a professional, collegial and respected community.
