Mayoral candidates square off at Vanderbilt University Aug. 25 as part of Young Voters Debate Series

Mayoral candidates Bob Clement and Karl Dean will make their cases for becoming Nashville’s chief executive during an hour-long debate sponsored by the city’s young leaders Saturday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at Vanderbilt University.

The event, which will be held in Ingram Hall at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music, is part of the Young Voters Debate Series, a bi-partisan, cross-cultural effort of the Davidson County Young Democrats, the Davidson County Young Republicans, Urban League Young Professionals of Middle Tennessee, the Nashville Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce. The series is designed to help educate candidates regarding the issues facing younger voters as well as increase voter turnout among the city’s 18- to 34-year-olds.

NewsChannel 5 and the Nashville Scene are also sponsoring the event that will be televised live on NewsChannel 5 and moderated by NewsChannel 5’s Rhori Johnston.

Tickets to the debate are free and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For ticket information, visit www.nashvilleyoungvoters.org. Tickets for members of the Vanderbilt community can be obtained by e-mailing mayoraldebate@vanderbilt.edu. Vanderbilt community members may receive two tickets per person.

Parking for the debate will be available in South Garage located on Children’s Way on the Vanderbilt campus – enter the garage off of Children’s Way and park on Level 2 or above. Ingram Hall, also located on Children’s Way, is a short walk from South Garage.
