Senior Day Study Break Video: "Old Entertainments, New Pleasures: Classical Music in Contemporary American Culture"

Melanie Lowe is Assistant Professor of Musicology at Vanderbilt University. She is the author of Pleasure and Meaning in the Classical Symphony (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2007) as well as articles on music in American media, classical recording, and early adolescent girls and teen pop culture. Winner of Vanderbilt’s Madison Sarratt Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2001), she teaches courses on American popular music, gender and sexuality in music, music and American politics, along with core history couses on Western music in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, and the Classic eras.
