This production includes the popular legendary woman warrior, MuLan, story from “Ode of MuLan; ‘Qu Yuan’ (340-278 BC), the father of Chinese Poetry; and dances inspired by poet, Xu Zhimo (1895-1931).
“MuLan” will be a fusion of Chinese dance, opera movements, martial arts forms with traditional Chinese music. “Ode of MuLan” will be chanted by vocalist, Xiu Hung Feng. “Qu Yuan” will be accompanied by an original music composition by Shueh-Shuan Liu, a renown Taiwanese Chinese composer, and will be played live by Blakemore Trio (pianist: Amy Dorfman, violinist: Carolyn Huebl, & cellist: Felix Wang). “Searching for a Bright Star” the title dance for the works inspired by modern poet, Xu Zhimo.
The dancers include Carrie Gerow and Lisa Spradeley, faculty members of the
School of
Nashville Ballet. Dr. Guan Ping Zheng from MTSU designs digital backgrounds for some of the dances, and Rudi Aldrige from
Vanderbilt
University will design the lighting. Choreographer and artistic director is Jen-Jen Lin.
