Vanderbilt University students gear up for February Dance Marathon fundraiser

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt University students are hosting a “mini marathon” event Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. to generate excitement about and participation in Dance Marathon, a 14-hour student-run fundraising event held each February. Money raised through Dance Marathon benefits the Children‘s Miracle Network, which directly benefits local network member the Monroe Carell Jr. Children‘s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The “mini marathon” event this month at Children‘s Hospital will feature dancing, fun activities for kids such as face-painting and making hand-print turkeys, and information on how families can participate in Dance Marathon. In addition to dancing, Dance Marathon, scheduled for Feb. 23-24, also includes food, games and entertainment.

Started in 1995, the Children‘s Miracle Network‘s Dance Marathon is a national program in which more than 80 colleges and universities around the country participate by holding separate Dance Marathon events in the fall through spring.

Vanderbilt University‘s February 2006 Dance Marathon raised more than $112,000. Money raised at the event comes from sponsors, dancers‘ individual donations and from the event‘s admission price.
