Twenty-nine high school bands from as far as New York state will converge on Vanderbilt University’s Dudley Field Saturday, Oct. 7, for the 18th annual Vanderbilt Marching Invitational. The invitational, which was started in 1989 to help provide scholarships to Vanderbilt’s “Spirit of Gold” Marching Band, has grown tremendously to become one of the premier marching competitions in the Southeast, drawing bands from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Tickets are available to the public for $8 and up at Gate 2 of Vanderbilt Stadium. Jess Neely Drive and Vanderbilt Place from Jess Neely to 30th Avenue South will be closed during the event.
