Ceremony, open discussion to mark Sept. 11 anniversary at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt University community will mark the five-year anniversary of Sept. 11 with a morning remembrance and an open roundtable discussion led by faculty in the afternoon.

A short ceremony will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, on Alumni Lawn in front of the Sarratt Student Center. Bells in the Kirkland Hall tower will ring, and prayers will be offered by representatives of several religious traditions.

A roundtable discussion will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Flynn Auditorium of Vanderbilt Law School. “After 9/11: A Time for Reflection” will include panelists Michael Bess, Chancellor’s Professor of History; Rebecca Brown, Allen Professor of Law; Beth Conklin, associate professor of anthropology; Kate Daniels, associate professor of English; Gregg Horowitz, associate professor philosophy; Doug Knight, professor of Hebrew Bible; James Lawson, distinguished university professor for the 2006-07 academic year; Richard McGregor, assistant professor of religious studies; Bill Partridge, professor of human and organizational development and professor of anthropology; Jack Sasson, Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies and Hebrew Bible; and David Wood, professor of philosophy.
