Alerts about breaking Vanderbilt campus news, upcoming events and new research can now be received on cell phones via Vanderbilt’s new text messaging service, MobileVU.

“Our students, alumni and many of the other audiences we want to communicate with get their news and information via text messaging,” Michael Schoenfeld, vice chancellor for public affairs, said. “MobileVU allows us to deliver Vanderbilt news and information in a fast and accessible way. It’s one more tool that our audiences can use to get the Vanderbilt information they want when they want it.”

Initial MobileVU applications include sending information about breaking news, campus events, key sports highlights to subscribers as well as specific content for student subscribers, with plans to expand the service to include admissions information and emergency communications.

“We’ve intentionally kept this service open-ended to give us the flexibility to meet the needs and interests of users,” Schoenfeld said. “We look forward to hearing from the community about what information they want to get from us this way, and we’ll shape our service to meet that demand.”

MobileVU is powered by DobieMobile, a text messaging company founded by former Nashville Scene publisher Bruce Dobie. Standard text messaging rates apply.
