NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Singer-songwriters Victoria Shaw, Jim Photoglo and Don Henry will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, as part of the Bluebird on the Mountain concert series at Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory.
Bluebird on the Mountain presents artists from the stage of Nashville’s Bluebird Café singing on scenic observatory grounds overlooking the city. The series is booked by Amy Kurland, founder and owner of the Bluebird Café.
Shaw has written three No. 1 songs – “The River” by Garth Brooks, “Too Busy Being in Love,” performed by Doug Stone, and “I Love the Way You Love Me,” by John Michael Montgomery. She also has penned songs recorded by Tanya Tucker, Olivia Newton-John, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood.
Photoglo’s career has spanned four decades as both a songwriter and artist, with contributions to pop, country and R&B. Photoglo has released five albums, including his latest, Sparks in the Radio. Alabama, The Everly Brothers, Hill, James Ingram, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Kenny Rogers have recorded his songs.
Henry’s latest album is Flowers and Rockets, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed Wild in the Backyard, which was hailed by Billboard magazine as one of the Top 10 albums of 1991. Henry won a Grammy in 1990 for co-writing Kathy Mattea‘s hit “Where’ve You Been,” which also won awards from the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association and the Nashville Songwriters Association International.
A wide range of recording artists have performed Henry’s songs, including Ray Charles, the Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Gary Morris, Mattea, T.G. Sheppard and B.J. Thomas.
Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster, which will add a handling fee. Tickets are limited, and past performances have sold out prior to the day of the show. The concert will be held rain or shine.
Tickets are $70 for carloads with a maximum of eight people and $30 per person. No RV’s or buses will be admitted.
Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and pack a picnic basket. After the show, visitors can stay to look at the stars using the observatory’s Seyfert telescope.
The next Bluebird on the Mountain show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, featuring John Jarvis, Lari White and Chuck Cannon. The final show of the 2006 season is on Oct. 14.
