Vanderbilt announces launch of Visit Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A new university-wide initiative is urging tourists and Middle Tennessee residents alike to Visit Vanderbilt.

“We all know that Nashville is one of the top tourist destinations in the country,” said Chancellor Gordon Gee. “But what some may not know is that one of the city’s most interesting attractions is in plain sight on West End Avenue: Vanderbilt University.”

“We want Vanderbilt to be a “must-see” stop for tourists, conventioneers and other guests,” said Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Michael Schoenfeld. “In addition to world class education, healthcare and research, Vanderbilt offers historic architecture, a National Arboretum, a wide range of visual art and sculpture, musical performances, lectures from prominent figures, sporting events and opportunities for life-long learning. There is truly something for everyone on the campus of Vanderbilt University.”

As part of the initiative a Visit Vanderbilt brochure has been prepared to highlight Vanderbilt’s array of educational, cultural, sightseeing, shopping, dining and entertainment offerings and will be distributed to the Metro Council, Mayor’s office and business and community leaders as well as local hotels, convention and tourist sites. In addition a comprehensive website – www.vanderbilt.edu/visitors – has been launched to provide one-stop shopping for the numerous opportunities presented by Vanderbilt. Coming this fall, a newly designed campus book, which will contain several versions of self-guided tours, as well as an accompanying podcast of the tour, will be released.

After several years of an informal partnership with the Nashville Visitors and Convention Bureau, Vanderbilt has officially joined the organization to further the initiative’s efforts.

“We have seen tremendous growth in Nashville and we want everyone to know how great an asset Vanderbilt is to the community,” said Schoenfeld. “We look forward to working with our partners at the Convention and Visitor Bureau, and across the community, to continue making Nashville the country’s best place to live, work and visit.”
