NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Vanderbilt University news has a new online home—one complete with audio, video, expert sources and breaking news from across the university.
All content on VUCast – www.vanderbilt.edu/news – is available for media to re-use in their broadcasts, publications and websites.
“We created VUCast to deliver information to media, current and prospective students, faculty, parents, alumni, staff and anyone interested in Vanderbilt’s story, around the clock and as it happens,” Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Michael Schoenfeld said.
The new network features podcasts—downloadable audio stories and recordings—from across the university, including interviews, full lectures, musical performances from the Blair School of Music, and Stellar Conversations, a podcast produced by Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory that discusses astronomy with Vanderbilt scientists in layman’s terms.
Video of lectures, sports highlights, medical breakthroughs and more is available on the site, as are news releases and links to news coverage of Vanderbilt. Sources, an online database of Vanderbilt experts, designed to help journalists find Vanderbilt professors with expertise in a particular subject, is also featured.
All content on the site can be subscribed to or syndicated using RSS, a technology that makes it possible to incorporate Vanderbilt headlines into others’ websites or to deliver aggregate “feeds” from websites to an individual’s desktop.
The overall Vanderbilt website logged approximately 3.5 to 4 million visits a month in 2005.
