MEDIA ADVISORY: Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft to speak at Vanderbilt University Monday, Ashcroft available to media prior to lecture

John Ashcroft, whose tenure as U.S. attorney general from 2001 to 2005 included an historic era of safety and security concerns for America following Sept. 11, will speak at Vanderbilt University Monday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in Ingram Hall.

A media availability with Ashcroft will be held from 6:45 to 7 p.m. in Ingram Hall. Media interested in covering Ashcroft’s lecture should note that no videotaping or audio taping will be allowed and print photography is limited to the first five minutes of the lecture.

Ashcroft’s lecture is part of the Project Dialogue series, a yearlong, university-wide program that seeks to involve the entire Vanderbilt community in public debate and discussion and attempts to connect classroom learning with larger societal issues.

Project Dialogue, which started in 1989, is held every other year at the university and allows each student generation the opportunity to participate in two Project Dialogue series while attending Vanderbilt. Each year’s series centers on a particular theme. This academic year’s theme is “Crime & The Ultimate Punishment.”
